Alnwick, Northumberland
Alnwick in Northumberland is a fairly small market town in North Northumberland. Alnwick's population was just over 8,000 at the time of the 2001 census, and according to Country Life, October 2002, "Alnwick is the most picturesque market town in Northumberland, and the best place to live in Britain". Alnwick town is situated on the south bank of the River Aln, 32 miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Scottish border, 4 miles inland from the North Sea at Alnmouth and only 34 miles north of the city of Newcastle. The Alnwick Gardens are next to Tate House Alnwick.

The State Rooms
Alnwick Castle Alnwick, Northumberland is full of surprises! Behind its iconic walls lie lavish State Rooms packed with a stunning array of art and furniture, collected over the years by generations of the Percy family, the Earls and Dukes of Northumberland. Despite their imposing nature, the rooms still contain the personal touches of a family home.
Rooms open to the public include the Guard Chambers, the Ante-Library, the Library, the Saloon, the Drawing Room, the Dining Room, the Breakfast Room, the China Gallery and the Chapel.

When visitors pass through the archway into The Alnwick Garden, it is impossible to miss The Garden’s extraordinary centrepiece, the Grand Cascade. A magnificent tumbling mass of water with spellbinding displays, the Grand Cascade is the largest water feature of its kind in the country. t is built into two listed earth banks from the 1850s which create The Garden’s slope. Also, not forgeting the wonderful Treehouse, Europes biggest treehouse.

Essential maintenance will take place from the 14th-20th January inclusive; The Garden will be closed during this time. The Poison Garden will be closed from 5th November for maintenance - reopening date to be confirmed.
